It's kinda quite around here so being that I finally saw this production last weekend with various casts and thought I'd share some thoughts on it, mainly the final (and best) performance as well as a few other mentions
Cast
Füredi Nikolett - Elisabeth
Kamarás Máté - Halál
Földes Tamás - Lucheni
Bálint Ádám - Franz Joseph
Nádasi Veronika - Sophie
Szabó Dávid - Rudolf
Náray Erika - Ludovika/ Frau Wolf

I really liked Erika as Frau Wolf, much more than I did as the baroness in Mozart. Her voice sounded great in 'Elpirulni, ó, itt az nem való'
The ensemble were also completely solid I especially loved 'Tej' and the Hungarian dancing during ' Eljen' It's often easy to get bored with ensemble scenes but everyone gave it so much energy there wasn't a dull moment in the entire performance. Veronika was great as Sophie I think Ballads suit her voice better I preferred her to Molnár Piroska
Adam makes a good franz and although I did prefer Zoltan and got more out of the character when watching him. he gives him more layers and his voice sounds lovely. Although I did see a bit of his Mercucio sneak into him in a couple of scenes when moved with a lil too much vigor, still Adam He gives him a little more backbone and is easily near the top of my list of favorite FJ's

Földes Tamás is my new favorite Lucheni! While Száraz is great and very much the charismatic narrator, Földes is more vicious and crazy making him an overall more believable as an unstable assassin. He had a real nasty/sarcastic streak such as when he put on a really sad voice when talking about Elisabeth still fighting her 'maladie' then goes into a sadistic laugh. It's worlds away from his Friar Lawrence
Dávid is great as Rudolf. He is very boyish looking and slim which adds to the characters frailty. I like how he really seems to be summoning death with that white ball. Rather than stare at it thoughtfully he'll hold it up close his eyes and really concentrating. He'll then seem to have second thoughts when he hears deaths voice behind him, he opens in eyes and and stares at the ball as if he cannot believe it worked. Then you can see the fear in him as he seems to realize the possible consequence of his actions.

Máté is brilliant! I'm such a fan of his but shockingly I think for the most part I prefer Szilveszter's approach
Still this is one death you don't want to mess with, he's almost satanic. He's passionate crazy aggressive and unafraid to use his power to manipulate anything to his favor. He's unaccustomed to anyone defying him and you can believe that no one had ever dared. Elisabeth though dose and it drives him nuts.
Szilveszter though had a mesmerizing air of magic that commands your attention. His voice sounded soft and alluring. He was unearthly, aloof and commanding yet Elisabeth is his weak point and you can see the intense pent up angst written all over him each time Elisabeth rejects him. His Útvesztő minden út was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen/heard. He just completely owns it as death and I really hope I get to see him again in this role.

The highlight of it all though was Niki as Elisabeth. Bernadett was also lovely, she really put her heart into 'Az már nem én lennék' and would have been a hard act to follow for most actresses. Niki however is different, She was perfect the moment she came onstage her acting was real and intense and often had me close to tears throughout the performance. During 'Mint te' her Elisabeth's love for her father was plain and clear in a way I've never seen before. I've also never seen an actress look nervous and unsure during the wedding dance scene, they either look happy or blank. Niki's approach was the most historically correct though and it was nice to see that. I really felt for her during 'Mert egy császárnénak illik' and my emotion moved with her as she found her strength in 'Az már nem én lennék' Her voice is stunning anyway but her final high note at the end of that song is just perfect. She and Máté made a powerful and intense 'Maladie' scene and I loved the emotion she put into 'Sirató' it was spot on and very moving!
Same with ''Mint két gálya' She put a lot into it, I really felt she was looking back on their lives with a mixture of wistfulness and regret, it was so beautiful. I got emotional at the end of the show too, I really didn't want it to end. She's easily the most gorgeous Elisabeth and was a total sweetheart at the stage door. I just cannot say enough good things about her

Sena Jun looks lovely as Tod and she is the second Takarazuka actress to play Elisabeth and Tod since Ichiro Maki and the first to play Elisabeth, Lucheni and Der Tod in different Takarazuka productions.

Not sure if this is interesting for some but there will be a new "Elisabeth" production by the Moon Troupe again. Sena Jun will lead the cast as Der Tod and a newcomer from Cosmos Troupe(moving into Moon), Nagina Rumi as Elisabeth(another Otokoyaku turned Elisabeth).

I'll see how this version goes(most receptions from fans were between positive and negative about this particular production).

Welcome!

And the way einekaiserin explained it is how I've always understood it as well. There are some people who view it so that Elisabeth actually isn't there anymore and isn't with Death, but I've never viewed it that way. The reality where the others are in the prologue is just different from where she is. And I guess Death is so emotional about it because it's a pretty big deal for him to have fallen in love, and not something he is at all used to. So even thinking about it makes him feel emotional and confused. Depends a lot on the actor's interpretation, of course.

You know, I figured that was it, but I had to be sure that they weren't pulling some deal where she gets kidnapped by elves at the last minute or something. ...Okay, maybe not elves. Der Tod just seems so emo in the prolog, I thought something must have happened to keep them apart. But you guys have eased my gut-wrenching terror doubts

And thanks for the welcome!
